India is a country with over a billion population. In this a minimum of 20 million people are visually handicapped and over a 25 million are partially blind. The population explosion coupled with increased life expectancy will only lead to an increase in the number of the blind and visually handicapped. In this rapidly growing population 80% suffer from curable blindness such as Cataract. Other conditions such as corneal disorders, Glaucoma, Diabetes and Vitamin-A deficiency, if identified early can be harnessed before progressing to incurable blindness.

In India 20% live below the poverty line. Though health care technology at its best is available, the poor are unable to access them due to exorbitant cost.

With this in mind Chennai Vision Charitable Trust was inaugurated in 1995. Over the past 12 years it has conducted more than 950 camps and done 65,000 Cataract surgeries free of cost, conducted school health camps. 1000 corneal transplant surgeries free of cost.
