I completed my MBBS from Thanjavur Medical College and went on to work in Indian Railways as an ADMO in the Indian Railway Medical Service after passing the Combined Medical Services Examination conducted by the UPSC.

While in Govt service I did my Diploma in Ophthalmology at Govt Ophthalmic Hospital, Chennai. I had worked as an Eye surgeon in Railway Hospitals of ICF, Palakkad, Trivandrum and Chennai. I retired from service as Chief Medical Superintendent of Southern Railway. Subsequently I worked in Vasan eye Care as Consultant Ophthalmologist for 4 years and then joined Rajan Eye Care in 2014 as Consultant Ophthalmologist.

Practising Ophthalmology has been my passion and I look forward to see patients, always giving them the best of care. I find my profession exciting and challenging and I am happy that I have treated several hundred patients in my career of nearly 45 years.

She is a keen academician and has won multiple accolades like the YKC Pandit award by the Maharashtra ophthalmic Society , Dr Basheer Mekhri award by the Karnataka Ophthalmic Society , best papers at Bombay ophthalmologists' association and  the International Conference on Nanomedicine and Recent Advances in Ophthalmic Research.

She has co- edited the book , Textbook of vitreoretinal diseases and surgery", Jaypee publishers, published multiple papers in indexed journals and written chapters in Indian textbooks for postgraduates.

Her areas of interest include diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment , age related macular degeneration and retinal imaging. She has spearheaded the project ,ROTAROPP, the rotary retinopathy of prematurity to prevent blindness in premature babies.
