Cataracts are a very common eye condition. Cataract in old age are called (senile cataract), in children (congenital cataract) and Adolescents (Developmental cataract). When the lens inside the eye gradually changes and becomes less transparent (clear), misty, or cloudy, it is said to have a cataract.
Most cataracts are caused as a result of aging (Age-related cataracts).
Congenital cataracts : Babies are sometimes born with cataracts as a result of an infection, injury, or poor development before they were born, or they may develop during childhood.
Secondary cataracts : Medical conditions like diabetes, or exposure to toxic substances, certain drugs, ultraviolet light, or radiation.
Traumatic cataracts : These form after injury to the eye.
Other factors that can increase a person’s risk of developing cataracts include cigarette smoke, air pollution, and heavy alcohol consumption.
